GEMBOT is a combination of a favorite card game, Cribbage, & the Falling Block genre, and was originally created for the Falling Block Jam 2025 but has since seen further development!

Drop Gems into place on a 5x5 Celestial Board where adjacent Gems in the same Row or Column combine to Score Points and Generate Stars!

Similar to a traditional deck of playing cards, there are 13 Gems (sequenced A-K) of 5 different Colors for a total of 65 Gems in a deck.

There are 3 Game Modes in GEMBOT each with their own Online Leaderboards:

  • CLASSIC consists of a Single deck of gems where Scoring occurs only in ROWS.
    • There are 3 Music Tracks in GEMBOT with the 2nd and 3rd Unlocked at Scores of 75 and 150 in CLASSIC Mode ONLY
      • See the Skip icon next to the Music toggle to advance to the next available Track
  • RUSH is Classic play with a 5 Minute Timer; Should you play through the entire Deck, another will be Shuffled and available!
  • STARCROSS is a standard 65 Gem Deck where scoring occurs in both Rows and COLUMNS

Gems can be counted more than once in the same Row or Column and will generate Stars each time they are included in 1 of 4 Scoring Combinations before they are removed from the Board allowing Gems above to Drop into place.

SCORING COMBINATIONS: (Click to View)
  • 15 (Fifteen):
    • 2 or more adjacent Gems in the same Row or Column Totaling 15
      • Aces count as 1; Face Gems as 10
    • Remember, Gems can be used more than once in the same Row/Column:
      • Example: There are (2) 15s in 6135J; 6135 = 15, and 5J = 15
    • 15s are worth 2 Points with points doubled for each subsequent 15 in the same Drop
  • PAIR:
    • Pair 2 adjacent Gems of the same Number in a Row/Column for 2 Points
    • Points for additional Pairs in the same Drop are Doubled
    • Multi-Pair example: 
      • The Board shows 4_4 in a Row and you drop a 4 in between for 2 Pair; 444 & 444
  • RUN: 
    • 3  Adjacent Gems that can be arranged in Sequential Order (left to right/top to bottom) form a Run for 3 points (think 3-Card Straight of any Color)
    • A Row reading A23A would be 2 Runs where A23 is already in sequential order while 23A could be arranged as A23, as well
    • Points for additional Runs in the same Drop are Doubled
  • MATCH:
    • Match 3 Gems of the same Color in the same Row/Column for 3 Points
    • Each additional Match in the same Drop is worth Double
    • A Row/Column of 5 Gems of the same Color contains (3) Matches:
      • A2345, A2345, & A2345
  • 31 (Thirtyone):
    • 4 or more adjacent Gems in the same Row/Column Totaling 31 for 2 Points
    • Each additional 31 in the same Drop is worth Double
BONUSES:
  • His Boots!
    • If the First Gem in a New Game is a Jack, Score 2 Points
  • Shooting Star!
    • Complete a Game with No Gems Remaining on the Board for 10 Points
STARS & FINAL SCORE:

Each time a Gem is combined to Score Points, a Star is Generated which eagerly searches for its place in the Heavens.

The Total Stars Generated in a game is added to your Score at the end of play to form your Final Score which will be evaluated by GEMBOT. 

If you surpass your personal High Score, it will be Submitted to the Celestial Leaderboard (along with the dominant Color from that game).

Should there be too many Stars in the Sky, my favorite Alien will arrive to send them deeper into Space, far beyond sight, where the Ancients Dwell.
